What Exactly Defines Fine Art?

This has always stumped me, as I do consider some of my pieces fine art, but what exactly defines it?

Angry brush strokes on canvas? Perhaps random stills of stop signs and sidewalks? I guess it's something that only the artist can define, though not in a verbal sense.

To me, fine art depicts a sense of emotion. It has a meaning behind it and a story to tell. To those who are willing to listen with their eyes. It's random, it's political, it's colorful and gray. It doesn't have to take a specific shape or form; but in the artists' eyes and mind, it's three-dimensional.

Art can be quiet, art can speak volumes.

Art doesn't believe in "rules" nor does it take orders.

How do you define it?

  2. With the advent of digital manipulation, art is taking on a whole new meaning. As a photographer, I admire classic mechanisms and techniques that the great masters devoted themselves to.

As art evolves, one can either adapt or frown upon it.
